ARTIST STATEMENT
As I interminably confront mind and wellness issues in the digital age, I unravel the convolutions through the art of pattern and tactility.
Art, to me, is a remedy for my distress as I simplify the complexities that surround me on seemingly infinite patterns. In these self-arranged compositions, I discover my own sanctuary with a repetitive routine that requires manual dexterity. This creative process allows me to be immersed in the present, away from the constant exposure to technology. The physical artifact of this therapeutic process is a reflection of my perpetual ponderings on living an intentional life beyond numbers.
Incorporating bold colors and motifs, I intend to emphasize the effervescence of natural life that is often transcended by virtual reality. Colors are a significant component to my art, as the strict use of primary colors manifests individuality. The wonder of primary colors, RGB, is that they can only exist on their own singularity, just like every living being.
I further accentuate the power of individuality by referencing my cultural background, in which I had developed a keen interest in discovering my personal search for reason. To convey a sense of self, I integrate cultural elements of Korean traditional patterns for their boldness and rigidity that demonstrate the strength of our people.
With my art, I primarily aim to deliver the essence of life to modern-day peoples that endlessly face difficulties oscillating between the real and digital worlds. As my work embodies physical documentation of time and exertion, I hope that it serves as a source of hope and optimism in the struggles of today.
