CONTROL ROOM
2019, mixed media installation, 7’ x 7’ x 7’
“Control Room” is an installation that highlights the uncertain reality of life while juxtaposing material reality in one cohesive space. This concept is manifested through revealing one’s room, as the separation and independence from the outside world provokes emotions that are often forgotten when taken for granted. And by this, I mean love. The feeling of love is something that cannot be seen, touched, or explained, yet it is (in my opinion) the most powerful.
I portrayed love as a life-changing, altering experience, constantly breaking in and out of the system. There is tension all over throughout the red knits, while feelings of love float sporadically throughout the room. The bottom layer of jacquard shows the growth and change over time. All of these details are held together by the tulle layer with motherboard and floor plan embroideries that represent the systems of modern-day society. The tulle layer creates the experience of being trapped in a room, but the beauty of love and faith blooms beyond the tulle layer, creating harmony with the material world and the uncertain world.

Once a place of comfort, I outgrew it as my interests could no longer be confined within this fixed system.
